Porsche, the renowned sports car manufacturer, has teamed up with Frauscher Shipyard to unveil the 850 Fantom Air, their inaugural electric sports boat. Powering this maritime marvel is the drive technology slated for Porsche’s upcoming all-electric Macan. International media and enthusiasts recently took this high-powered vessel for its maiden test spins on Italy’s picturesque Lake Garda.

    Electrifying Performance and Pioneering Technology
The 850 Fantom Air isn’t just a boat; it’s a testament to collaborative innovation. As Detlev von Platen, a top executive at Porsche AG remarked, “This boat embodies the essence of both Frauscher and Porsche: stellar performance, luxury, top-tier quality, and an iconic, evergreen design.” The boat’s heart is a meticulously modified version of Porsche’s road vehicle drive technology, specifically incorporating components of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that the forthcoming Macan is based on. This includes a state-of-the-art electric motor and associated power electronics, culminating in a whopping 400 kW of electric power, facilitating speeds up to 85 km/h.

Unmatched Handling and Versatile Drive Modes
When it comes to handling, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is unparalleled. A shaft links the electric motor to the marine Z-drive, while the boat’s control mechanisms are encased in a waterproof box flaunting the iconic Porsche emblem. In true Porsche style, drivers can toggle between pre-set modes – Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus – to adapt to varying conditions and needs. These modes adjust throttle response and set speed caps. For instance, Docking mode, intended for harbor maneuvers, restricts the speed to around 15 km/h.

    Revolutionizing Charging with 800-Volt Technology
Charging this aquatic beast is a breeze, thanks to Porsche’s cutting-edge 800-volt technology. It can gulp down over 250 kW of DC current at rapid charging stations, allowing for a charge from 10% to 80% in under half an hour. Conventional AC charging is also available, which experts believe will be the primary method given its widespread availability at ports. Additionally, an 11-kW AC charger comes standard, discreetly tucked beneath the boat’s left bench.

Porsche’s Signature Touch in Design and Comfort
Beyond its impressive performance, the electric sports boat is a visual treat. Studio F. A. Porsche took the helm in designing its helmstand. Highlights include a sleek black instrument panel, winglet-styled side ends reminiscent of the Porsche 911, and a Porsche-centric steering wheel. The boat’s interior oozes luxury, from the sports car-inspired front seats to the high-quality faux leather upholstery available in myriad colors.

Day Cruiser with a Lavish Spread of Amenities
Based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air day cruiser, the eFantom retains the classic design while accommodating up to nine passengers. A swimming platform, luxurious lounge area, sunbathing pads, cockpit, and more make for a delightful onboard experience. For audiophiles, a high-end audio system with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity comes standard. The boat also boasts LED lighting, an electric stainless steel anchor, and a cooling compartment. Prospective owners can even customize colors for upholstery, hull, and deck from Porsche’s extensive road vehicle palette.

Exclusive First Edition Set for 2024 Release
Maritime enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is set for its global debut in January 2024 at the ‘boot’ trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. This premium boat has an exclusive first edition limited to 25 units, with a starting price tag of €561,700. Orders can be placed online and the boats will be constructed at the Frauscher Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria.
